BIG THINKING BRINGS THE
ULTIMATE SMALL MOTORHOME
The ultimate in miniaturised motorhomes is coming from Romahome, masters of the genre who are sometimes copied but never bettered.
The company, based at Cowes, on the Isle of Wight, is launching its new R10 Solo at the International Caravan and Motorhome 2008, at the NEC between October 14 and 19 and it brings fresh and innovative thinking for those who love their motorhome to be compact rather than colossal.
Romahome’s larger R20 is still winning awards and has been named as Micro Motorhome of the Year this year – the third such award in consecutive years and just some of many gained in its 17 year history. Other makers have copied its concept, but it’s the R20 that still wows the judges.
“We have based R10 on the Citroen Nemo, which is the new international van of the year, and I’m sure that Romahome fans are going to love it,” said Romahome managing director, Brian Bailey.
“Regular customer feedback showed that many people who buy our R20 conversions actually only wanted a single berth motorhome but still a vehicle that they could use for everyday transport.
“As a result, we created the R10. It has two seats in the front cab plus another sideways seat in the rear living area for which a seatbelt is available as an option.
SAINT ALIVE! JAMES IS THROWING A WEEKEND BASH
Freeborn Motorhomes is planning an opportunity for customers to meet the 2009 model ranges and new Surrey branch manager James Saint.
James joined Freeborn in July and says November is the first month he will get the chance to relax and meet guests after a busy summer and show season so he will be holding an open weekend.
“I’ve been in the motorhomes industry seven years and am really relishing running the Freeborn Motorhomes site at Guildford Road, Godalming,” he says.
“I’ve met many customers at the shows but the open weekend will be a chance to get re-acquainted with them and introduce myself to the company’s many long-established friends.
“Naturally, they will want something interesting to see so I’ve also lined up the 2009 models from companies like Auto Trail and Romahome to give a really good reason for coming along!
“We also have models from the Elddis and Trigano ranges as well as an extensive range of pre-owned motorhomes and I’m sure I can do some great deals on these and any remaining 2008 new stock that we have then.”
The event is being held on November 14, 15, and 16 at the Surrey showroom in Godalming, where James is also planning to introduce a one-stop shop for accessories and consumables. The showroom is just three miles from the Loseley House turning on the A3 south of Guildford.

Freeborn Motor Group may live in the shadow of the Saints with its Stadium Motor Village next door to the ground at St. Mary’s but it now has a Saints team of its own.
James Saint is the latest recruit, joining Freeborn Motorhomes to take over as sales manager at its outlet at Guildford Road, Godalming.
His wife, Alison, is already sales administration manager for Freeborn Group while their daughter, Leah, is customer contact co-ordinator.
James’s father, Peter, is now retired but works for the Freeborn Group three days a week delivering cars and motorhomes to customers. And coming up on the wing is Alison’s sister, Anita Munday, who is sales administrator for the Group’s Skoda and Hyundai franchises in Southampton.
“Luckily, my Saints team is definitely at the top of the Premiership rather than struggling in the Championship,” said Freeborn Group managing director Andrew Jones.
“When it comes to reaching their goals, they always manage to find the net. They never need extra time and their customers are never claiming penalties.
“I have acquired James from another motorhome dealership on a nifty pre-season transfer and know he is real management material after several years as a player gaining experience.
“His leadership skills will be welcomed by the rest of the team at our Guildford outlet, where he has great plans for improving our game.
“He has been watching the other teams’ performances and knows their weaknesses as well as our strengths, which include a great product line-up from a broad choice of manufacturers as well as our own Romahome models.
“Under James’s guidance, we will be establishing new workshop facilities at Godalming and bringing in new products and services.”
James said he was looking forward to developing Freeborn Motorhomes at Godalming, where he is intending to open an accessories shop as well as stock the consumables motorhome owners need.
“I know that people coming in to buy small items can lead to sales of motorhomes as well. But apart from this, it’s important to offer a one-stop service for owners,” he explained.
“Selling motorhomes is different from selling cars. The relationship with buyers is much more personal – you are helping them select what many regard as their second home, equipping it with their personal touches and ensuring it stays in top condition.
“Freeborn Motorhomes’ Surrey branch will now be much more of a complete experience, with mechanical and habitation checks on-site rather than in our satellite Hampshire workshops.
“The technicians at Godalming are trained on Citroens but the majority of motorhome builders use versions of chassis common to the Citroen range that are also sold under the Fiat and Peugeot badges.
“Freeborn has a wide choice of brands available and I’m familiar with all of them. Motorhomes are becoming increasingly popular and represent a great way of life which has shown itself to have great appeal to people living in Surrey.”
